On Thursday, Patna police had suspended Jitendra Singh, also a bodyguard of Rabri Devi, after the Saran police submitted a report to the Patna police chief, officials said.

The report states that officials said Rohini Acharya was accompanied by her mother as a bodyguard on May 20, when the Lok Sabha elections were held in Saran constituency. Acharya is contesting against incumbent BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy.

Bihar BJP leader and deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary had raised the issue and demanded an inquiry. Subsequently, a police team from Saran arrived at the former chief minister’s official residence with CCTV footage and identified the two policemen who were seen outside a polling station where an altercation had broken out on polling day, which led to violence the next day in which an RJD worker was shot dead and two others injured.

The two bodyguards traveled to Saran without prior permission from the relevant authorities, said a police official familiar with the matter who wished to remain anonymous.

Meanwhile, Saran SP Gaurav Mangla said the police have filed another FIR at the Cyber Police Station against suspects who uploaded inflammatory posts on social media regarding the incident.

In the town of Chapra, where the violence occurred, shops remained closed for the fifth day in a row on Saturday.
