1 person is injured in Russian attacks on Sumy Oblast

According to the military administration of Sumy Oblast, on May 18, Russian forces attacked ten border areas and settlements of Sumy Oblast, firing 46 shots and causing at least 284 explosions.

The municipalities of Mykolaivka, Khotin, Yunakivka, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Novo Sloboda, Esman, Shalyhyne and Seredyna-Buda were targeted.

The Russian military attacked the communities with artillery fire, AGS-17 grenade launchers, FPV drones and mortar shells, while also dropping mines.

One person was injured by mortar shells in the village of Esman.

The city of Bilopillia experienced the most attacks, with 76 explosions recorded. Bilopillia, which had a population of about 15,600 before the war, is just eight kilometers south of the Ukrainian-Russian border.

Russian attacks against the Sumy region have become increasingly destructive in recent months. In view of the increasing attacks, the Ukrainian authorities ordered further evacuations from the region.

Zelensky: “Our partners fear that Russia will lose this war”

President Volodymyr Zelensky believes that Ukraine’s partners are “afraid that Russia will lose the war” and that they want Kiev to win “so that Russia does not lose,” Zelensky said at a meeting with journalists attended by the Kyiv Independent took part.
