The Porter baby’s death in April is under investigation

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office has contacted an outside agency to investigate the unauthorized release of confidential information related to the death of a 3-month-old baby in April.

Officials at the state attorney general’s office declined to say which agency is leading the investigation or provide further details about the case.

Porter resident Melvin Jesus Aquino-Enriquez, 26, is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $750,000 bond. He is accused of domestic violence and injury to a child.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has detained Aquino-Enriquez because of his immigration status.

A statement released Tuesday by the prosecutor’s office said the case remains under investigation and the office is considering additional charges against Aquino-Enriquez and others related to the baby’s death.

First Assistant District Attorney Mike Holley said a private citizen released a video on May 10 about the baby’s death and the investigation.

“The video appears to reference and disclose law enforcement information,” Holley said.

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, investigators were contacted by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services on April 14 about an injured three-month-old child who was taken to a local hospital.

In a May 2 news release, sheriff’s office officials said the department’s special victims unit was investigating the baby’s injuries in collaboration with Child Protective Services investigators.

On April 21, investigators learned that the baby had died from the injuries. An autopsy of the baby’s injuries is still pending.

Sheriff Rand Henderson declined to comment due to the ongoing investigation.
