The new Preservation in Place and Microsoft Entra ID integration streamlines internal pre-litigation operations

LAS VEGAS, May 7, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–CLOC GLOBAL INSTITUTE– Everlaw today announced new legal holds capabilities that control costs and risk by centralizing disclosure and legal holds functions in one place, enabling legal teams to stay on top of legal holds and quickly gain insights from the Win Everlaw’s litigation and investigation software solution.

Large companies in the US alone spent $23 billion on litigation in 2021, and the number is rising. The legal obligation to retain data arises when a party reasonably anticipates litigation or becomes aware of an investigation or legal proceeding. Larger companies often have thousands of employees in multiple queues at the same time. Failure to properly retain business communications may result in fines or sanctions. However, manual, error-prone tools are widespread: 51% of companies use email and 35% use spreadsheets to manage legal retention periods (ACC/Everlaw).

Everlaw Legal Holds is part of the Everlaw platform and is offered at no additional cost. It allows users to store legal work, from retention periods and document review to case strategy, in one highly secure location. Everlaw Legal Holds helps data custodian issuers overcome the challenges of frequent updates to custodian information, retirements of active custodians, complex reporting requirements, and a lack of knowledge about how different departments store their data. It includes a hold notification and custodian response tracking system. Holds are stored, created, and managed in individual databases, making each hold inextricably linked to the rest of the EDRM workflow on Everlaw.

Everlaw has been named to G2’s list of easiest-to-use legal hold software.

Everlaw Legal Holds includes: Dynamic Directory and Organization Management – Management Center. Here are the new features announced today:

  • Conservation available: Everlaw Legal Holds allow legal teams to prevent certain M365 user data or content from being deleted or modified.

  • Microsoft Entra ID integration (formerly Active Directory): Everlaw Legal Holds integrates with Microsoft data retention, allowing users to withhold active data through the Microsoft Compliance Center and Microsoft Directory integration. This allows users to automatically update their employee directories on Everlaw by syncing with Microsoft Entra ID.

“Although pre-litigation measures tend to be underappreciated, sound data retention practices – including legal holds – serve as the first step to successful dispute resolution,” said AJ Shankar, Founder and CEO of Everlaw. “Furthermore, a secure digital platform to manage the entire litigation and investigation lifecycle is proving to be a must for GCs.”

“When legal departments move to an all-in-one approach, they can accomplish some of the most important tasks of corporate lawyers, namely controlling costs, increasing efficiency and mitigating risk to grow the business,” said Ryan O’Leary, Research Director at IDC. “From legal holds to discovery, integrated with the latest Gen AI technology, I am impressed with how Everlaw is helping companies future-proof their legaltech investments.”

Everlaw will showcase its Legal Holds capabilities at the CLOC Global Institute 2024 at the ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, May 6-9, in Booth #115.
