UT lecturer arrested and fired for alleged actions during protest

AUSTIN, Texas – A lecturer has been fired from his position at the University of Texas at Austin (UT) because he was arrested for his alleged actions during a pro-Palestinian protest rally in April.

Richard Heyman was charged with interfering with public duties after he allegedly stole a DPS trooper’s bicycle. According to Heyman’s attorney, he had worked at the university for 18 years.

KVUE reached out to the University of Texas. A spokesman said the university could not comment on personnel matters.

KVUE also reached out to DPS for more details but did not receive a response.
