Important facts

The latest incident occurred at 3:30 p.m. local time on Thursday when an unnamed person got into an “altercation” with security guards before police arrived at the scene, Toronto Police Service spokesperson Laura Brabant told Forbes.

The intruder, who Brabant did not name, was taken to a hospital after the incident.

Another intruder, also not identified by authorities, attempted to gain entry to Drake’s home on Wednesday, Toronto police confirmed to Forbes, and was arrested under Ontario’s Mental Health Act, which allows police to do so allows a person to be taken to a place for examination if it is believed that the person is suffering from a mental disorder.

A security guard at Drake’s home was injured in a drive-by shooting on Tuesday and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a statement.

The Toronto Police Service, which is still investigating the shooting and searching for the suspect, had not released any further information as of Friday or confirmed whether Drake was home at the time of the shooting.

What we don’t know

It remains unclear whether any of the three incidents are related to Drake’s well-publicized feud with Kendrick Lamar.

tangent

Drake’s home is in Bridle Path, an affluent neighborhood about seven and a half miles from downtown Toronto. The mansion, also known as “The Embassy,” is a 50,000-square-foot estate with a recording studio, an NBA-sized indoor basketball court, a 3,200-square-foot master bedroom, and 1,100 square feet of covered terraces, according to Architectural Digest. Drake bought the property where the mansion now sits in 2015 for $6.7 million, CNN reported.

Important background

The incidents come amid a war of words between Drake and Lamar, with the two rappers releasing several dissident tracks against each other in recent weeks. Drake’s songs accuse Lamar of cheating and beating his wife, while Lamar accuses the Toronto rapper of pedophilia, in addition to calling him a narcissist and misogynist. One of Lamar’s dissident tracks, “Not Like Us,” became the most-streamed American hip-hip song in a day 6.59 million streams. Drake has denied Lamar’s accusations in his song “The Heart Part 6,” in which he claims that he and his team passed false information about themselves to Lamar.
