Jharkhand train accident live updates: Howrah-Mumbai mail train derails in Charadharpur, 2 dead, 20 injured

LIVE updates on the Jharkhand train accident: At least two people were killed and 20 injured when 18 coaches of the Howrah-Mumbai passenger train derailed near Charadharpur district in Jharkhand in the early hours of the morning.

Railway officials said the incident occurred after a goods train derailed and collided with the opposite Howrah-Mumbai Mail train. All the injured passengers were rushed to Tata Main Hospital in Jamshedpur.

Following the incident, Indian Railways cancelled five trains, including Howrah-Titalgarh-Kantabanji Express, Kharagpur-Jhargram-Dhanbad Express, Howrah-Barbil-Howrah Jan Shatabdi Express, Tatanagar-Itwari Express and LTT Express.

Earlier, on July 18, at least four people were killed and about 20 others injured when several bogies of the Dibrugarh Express train derailed in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee questioned the central government, saying: “This series of nightmares almost every week, this never-ending chain of deaths and injuries on the tracks: how long should we tolerate this?”
