Napping teacher suspended, staff member who made video fired | News from India

AGRA: A teacher of a government primary school in Aligarh was suspended from a Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) on Monday for “irresponsible behaviour”, days after two “derogatory” videos of her with students (age group 5-10) went widely circulated on social media, reports Mohammad Dilshad.

In the first video, teacher Dimple Bansal is seen lying on a mat and allegedly taking a nap during class while some students fan her. In another video, she is seen repeatedly hitting some students with a stick. The “shikshamitra” (school official) Vijay Singh, who allegedly filmed the two videos, has also been fired, local officials said.

BSA (Aligarh), Rakesh Singh, told TOI, “Dimple was suspended for hitting children with a stick.” Regarding her “nap in the classroom”, Singh said, “After an investigation, it was found that she had slipped and fallen from her chair.”

“She was not feeling well and was waiting for a local doctor to arrive. In the meantime, some children were fanning her to keep her awake.”

When contacted, Bansal said, “I had fallen from the chair and lost consciousness, which is why the children tried to wake me up.” When asked about the beating of the students, she claimed, “The mother of one of the students had asked me to beat her because she was wandering around the village rather than going to school.”

A local official said the process of terminating the Shikshamitra could take three to four days. He added, “Both the videos are about a month old and have surfaced on social media only now.”
