Boating accident in Chautauqua Lake leaves one person with serious injuries

Chautauqua Lake, NY (WJET/WFXP) – One person suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries in a boating accident on Chautauqua Lake.

The incident occurred in Shermans Bay, in the southern basin of Chautauqua Lake off the coast of Lakewood. Police were notified of the accident at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday.


According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, 30-year-old Anthony Pineda was driving the boat and 31-year-old Jamal Jaber of Florida began to follow behind the boat. Jaber jumped overboard from the swim platform without notifying Pineda. Jaber then struck the propeller with his left leg, suffering severe cuts to his lower leg, knee and thigh.

Jaber was then flown via STAT MedEvac to UPMC Hamot for treatment. The Lakewood Fire Department, Chautauqua County Dive Team, Chautauqua County EMS and Lakewood Busti Police were all on scene assisting with the accident.
