Fatal accident leads to closure of Route 1 on Saturday – First update from the state

Today at approximately 2:51 p.m., emergency crews responded to a serious car crash on Route 1 southbound near exit 86 in Frederica. The crash, which involved a motorcycle, tragically resulted in one fatality at the scene.

Units dispatched to the scene included the Frederica Fire Department, Kent County paramedics, and Trooper 2 of the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit.

Following the accident, Delaware Police closed southbound Bay Road (SR 1) near Frederica Road to monitor the scene and conduct their investigation. Motorists were advised to use alternate routes to avoid delays.

The road has now been reopened.
