Heavy storms cause standing water on several roads in Dickinson – Houston Public Media

Lines of cars lined the Hughes Road bridge over I-45 as the water receded, making it difficult to commute to work.

According to Dickinson Emergency Management, several roads were covered in standing water due to the storms that passed through the area.

The city said it was conducting multiple flood rescues as cars were stranded by floodwaters. Lines of cars were parked along the Hughes Road overpass on I-45, waiting for the water to recede. The flooding was making it difficult for people to get to work.

Chrislyn Richardson said she was parked on top of the bridge for 30 minutes and had to call work.

“I was on my way to work and I saw everyone pulling over on I-45, so I came over here and this is what I saw. I didn’t flood my car,” Richardson said.

Chris Navarro said the rising waters when he got out scared him and he didn’t know how to get to work.

“I’m waiting or trying to see if I can get back through there. Because earlier in the morning I was going through there, it was a little dark. I just ran right into it. I had to speed up or I probably would have been flooded like this car right here,” Navarro said.

Authorities recommend checking road conditions before setting off, as waterways are full and further rainfall will cause them to overflow.
