Pocso: Man sentenced to life imprisonment in Pocso case for sexually abusing his stepdaughter | Nashik News

Nashik: A 50-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment under the provisions of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act after he was found guilty of sexually abusing his minor stepdaughter. The case was registered by Upnagar police station in 2018 under the stringent Pocso Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the complaint of the girl’s mother. The court of VS Malkapatte-Reddy, District and Sessions Judge 9, heard the arguments and found the man guilty of the crime on the circumstantial evidence. The case was registered against the convict for sexually abusing his stepdaughter from 2009 to 2018, starting when she was ten years old, said Deputy Public Prosecutor Sulabha Sangle. “The mother, however, turned hostile during the hearing but the court relied on the victim’s statement along with compelling medical evidence and circumstantial evidence presented to it. “The court found the man guilty under the Pocso Act and relevant sections of the IPC,” Sangle said. While determining the sentence, the court decided to impose the maximum sentence and imposed life imprisonment under Section 376 of the IPC, the deputy public prosecutor said.
