State Police: Fatal accident on I-86 is under investigation

On July 19, at approximately 4:51 p.m., New York State Police responded to a fatal head-on collision on I-86 eastbound in Chemung.

A 2018 Nissan Maxima, driven by a 36-year-old man, crossed the center line and collided with a 2015 Acura RDX traveling eastbound. The Acura was occupied by an 18-year-old male driver and a 44-year-old female passenger. All three people were pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation continues with assistance from the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Department of Transportation, Chemung Fire Department, Greater Valley Emergency Services and the Wellsburg Fire Department.
