Baby shot in leg in Northeast Philadelphia, police say – NBC10 Philadelphia

A baby is recovering in the hospital after being shot Thursday night, according to a Philadelphia police spokesman.

The shooting occurred shortly before 6 p.m. in the 4000 block of Meridian Street in the Holmesburg neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia, police said.

According to police, a seven-month-old boy was shot in the leg. He was taken to a nearby hospital in a private vehicle and from there transferred by police to a second hospital.

Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told NBC10 that the baby was with his parents when someone approached them and opened fire.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the shooter fired at the parents, but the baby was hit, Small said. The parents were not injured.

When police arrived at the scene, the baby’s parents were not there, officials said. It took officers about an hour to find the couple a few blocks from where the shooting occurred.

The baby’s condition is stable, authorities said.

A crime scene was spotted on Meridian Street and a second at 7700 Frankford Avenue, investigators said. Two shell casings were found.

No one has been arrested in connection with the shooting, officials said. The baby’s parents are being questioned by police.

The Shooting Investigation Group is leading the investigation.

There are several cameras installed in the area where the shooting occurred. Police say they are currently reviewing the video.
