Patrol officers are criticized for not removing accident victims – police say they followed protocol

Bengaluru: An investigation has been launched against Hoysala patrolmen in north Bengaluru after they were accused of refusing to take away an accident victim.

However, police officials said that patrol officers followed protocol and that was why there was a delay in the ambulance arriving.

The incident occurred on July 15 at around 2 am on Triveni Road in Yeshwantpur when 24-year-old Rahul Gowda skidded and fell off his motorcycle.

According to sources, Hoysala patrolmen who were nearby called the ambulance and informed the traffic police, which handles accident cases. However, the ambulance was delayed by nearly 15 minutes.

At the same time, some passers-by gathered at the scene of the accident, criticizing the patrol officers for waiting for the ambulance and asking them to take the victim away in their vehicle.

A video was also shared on social media. Senior officials said that patrol officers followed protocol while the Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) has launched an investigation.

“The injured are transported only by ambulances. Often, trying to transport an injured person by other means of transport can cause more harm than good. The staff and officials are trained in first aid and can stabilize the injured, but they have to be transported by ambulance. Medical experts also advise against it,” said a senior official. DH.

Gowda, who sustained minor injuries, was later taken to a hospital and is recovering.
