Third arrest after gang rape on the beach during Spring Break

A third man has been arrested in connection with the gang rape of a woman who was left unconscious on a North Florida beach. The incident was captured on video and witnessed by numerous violent spring breakers.

The incident occurred last month in broad daylight at the height of spring break in Panama City Beach, where some 300,000 college students gather for round-the-clock parties in March and April.

Drinking alcohol on the beach was temporarily banned after a wild party ended in a shooting last month that left seven people injured. This measure had previously been rejected due to concerns that it would ruin a lucrative business for many hotels and bars.

However, the ban came after a woman in town for spring break passed out and was raped behind a popular beach bar and club, the Bay County Sheriff’s Office said.

A video recording documented the attack in mid-March in front of hundreds of spring breakers. Sheriff Frank McKeithen called it “one of the most disgusting, repulsive, disgusting things I have ever seen.”

On Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of George Davon Kennedy, a student at Middle Tennessee State University, on charges of sexual abuse by multiple perpetrators.

He was arrested near Atlanta, where he has family, the sheriff’s office said in a statement, which did not disclose his age.

Two students at Troy University in Alabama were arrested last week on the same charges. Delonte Martistee, 22, of Georgia, and Ryan Calhoun, 23, of Alabama, were suspended, the university said in a statement.

Florida Panhandle County law enforcement officials plan to extend the beach alcohol ban beyond April 18, the traditional end of the spring break season. This year, the parties seem to be going on, the sheriff’s office said.
