Police officer arrested for alleged rape of teenager |

The Lagos State Police said they had arrested one of their officers for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl in Command Area H in Ogudu.

The command’s spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this to the Nigerian news agency on Saturday.

However, he denied reports that the police department was shielding the alleged rapist.

Hundeyin said the officer in question had been absent from work since the alleged incident and only turned himself in for questioning on Saturday.

The image maker, who assured the public that the matter would not be swept under the carpet, said the Commander of the Command, Adegoke Fayoade, had ordered the Gender Unit of the Command to investigate the case immediately.

He said: “The case is being fully investigated.

“There is no plan to cover up the allegation.”

NAN had earlier reported that a 17-year-old girl (name withheld) reported to her parents a case of rape by a superior officer of Area H Command Ogudu in Ojota region.

NAN learnt that the girl was the victim of an alleged brutal sexual assault by criminals while trying to recover her allegedly stolen phone.

NAN’s investigations revealed that the said police officer, who got wind of the theft of the phone, after recording the girl’s statement, offered to help in locating her missing phone.
