Man jailed after woman recorded rape in Worthing

David Pacera, 42, was convicted of four serious sexual offenses and sentenced to seven years in prison.

A woman said Pacera, who was of no fixed abode, raped and sexually assaulted her at a property in Worthing on January 3.

The victim, who is automatically granted lifetime anonymity, was protected and supported by specialist officers while the investigation was launched, Sussex Police said.

Pacera was arrested after the incident and charged with rape, attempted rape, digital penetration and sexual assault.

Chichester Crown Court heard audio recordings of the victim saying “no” several times during Pacera’s five-day trial. He was found guilty of all charges on June 28.

On Friday 5 July, he was sentenced to seven years in prison at Hove Crown Court, given a restraining order and ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life.

Detective Constable Ellie Treagust praised the victim for his contribution to the conviction.

She said: “I would like to thank the victim again for the incredible courage and determination she has shown in reporting this incident and supporting the investigation through to its conclusion.

“Without their determination, aided by an audio recording made during this horrific ordeal, we would not have been able to put a dangerous sex offender behind bars where he can cause no further harm to the public.”

Sussex Police is urging victims of sexual crimes to report them to police online or by calling 101.

A police spokesman said: “In an emergency always call 999. You will be believed, you will be supported and we will do everything we can to get you justice.”
