Man dead after shooting on 7th Avenue North in Birmingham

A man is dead after a shooting in Birmingham on Thursday afternoon.

Birmingham police said they were called to the 2500 block of 7th Avenue North shortly after 2 p.m.

According to police, the man was found by officers with a gunshot wound and taken to UAB Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

BPD spokesman Truman Fitzgerald described the incident as a targeted shooting that may have involved more than two weapons.

“This was a real shooting… We believe there are more vehicles and more people out here. That’s why we’re asking the public to come forward. These individuals were involved in a shooting in broad daylight at a busy intersection. Please come forward if you know anything,” Truman said.

At least 50 shots were fired.

No one is in custody, but police said they are following a lead.
