Woman from Spokane in Western Washington found dead last June

According to MCSO, a Spokane woman was found dead in Western Washington in mid-June.

ELMA, Washington – Officials with the Mason County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) have arrested a man in connection with the investigation into a suspicious death involving a Spokane woman in June.

According to MCSO, a Spokane woman was found dead in Western Washington in mid-June.

On June 11 at approximately 7:30 a.m., MCSO responded to a call about a body found near Schaefer State Park in Elma. MCSO reports that evidence indicated the body had been there for at least two weeks.

The Mason County Coroner’s Office was able to identify the woman as Joanna Ruth Sanders of Spokane. Ten days later, on June 22, the MCSO responded to a call from a citizen who reported finding a woman’s clothing and personal items in a remote wooded area near Johns Prairie in Shelton, Washington, about 20 miles from where Saunders’ body was found.

Investigators later determined that there was a connection between the clothing and personal items and Saunders.

Detectives were able to secure video evidence and arrest the man for manslaughter in connection with Saunders’ death.

The MCSO stated that they do not believe anyone else is responsible for Saunders’ death and that there is currently no danger to the public.
