1 dead and 1 seriously injured in traffic accident in Elkhart County

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) – One person is dead and another is seriously injured after a car crashed outside of Bristol early Sunday morning.

The accident occurred around 5:50 a.m. on State Road 120 west of County Road 131.

According to police, a Honda Accord was traveling west on State Road 120 when it left the road and struck a mailbox and a tree.

The driver of the Honda, identified as 26-year-old Fernando Diaz Calderon of Elkhart, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police also said a 27-year-old Elkhart man who was a passenger in the vehicle was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries to his entire body.

The crash remains under investigation.
