IDENTIFIED: Man dead after drowning near Skaggs Bridge Park | YourCentralValley.com

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The man who drowned Sunday in Skaggs Bridge Park in Fresno County has been identified by the medical examiner.

Officers identified the man as 20-year-old Sachin Kumar of Fresno.

On Sunday, officials said they responded to a water rescue from the nearby San Joaquin River in Skaggs Bridge Park at around 3:30 p.m. A man was on the bank and required medical attention; he was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Investigators say a man who was in the river noticed another man in distress and took it upon himself to rescue him and bring him to shore. The two did not know each other.

While on scene, officers called the dive unit after receiving reports of another missing victim. He was last seen swimming with the man who had been pulled from the lake earlier.

Officials say Kumar was eventually found around 7 p.m., about 8 to 10 feet underwater from where he was last seen. On Sunday, people at the scene of the accident said he was 23 years old, but officials later clarified he was 20.

This is the second drowning accident to occur in Skaggs Bridge Park in June 2024.
