Alexander Volkov reacts to the incident with Sergei Pavlovich after the UFC fight in Saudi Arabia

It is unlikely that Alexander Volkov and Sergei Pavlovich will become close friends again, or at least not anytime soon.

Alexander Volkov vs Sergei Pavlovich

Volkov and Pavlovich were once sparring partners, but the two have fallen out. They finally fought at UFC Saudi Arabia this past Saturday. Volkov was successful at keeping his distance, making it difficult for Pavlovich to land anything substantial. Volkov prevailed with the jab, as well as kicks to the calf and body.

The fight went the full distance and Volkov won by unanimous decision. After the fight, Volkov went to face Pavlovich, but was pushed away by his former sparring partner.

Alexander Volkov spoke to reporters following his win over Sergei Pavlovich. When asked about the post-fight incident, Volkov insisted he had no idea why Pavlovich was mad at him (h/t Bloody Elbow).

“I mean, I didn’t think that was nice of him. I guess he’s mad at me – I’m not really sure why, and I’d like to find out why. Maybe he just misunderstood something, but it’s his fault, not mine. Honestly, that was the first time I’ve heard Sergei swear, because he kind of told me – well, I won’t repeat what he said – but that’s the first time I’ve actually heard him maliciously use swear words in my direction.”

Volkov said that if Sergei wanted to pursue him outside the Octagon, he would rather call the police than try to take action against him without sanctions.

Regardless, Volkov is in a good position after defeating heavyweight Pavlovich, previously ranked #3 in the UFC rankings.
