Beware of scams after recent flooding in the Houston area

HOUSTON – As parts of the Houston area begin cleaning up after last week’s flooding, scammers are waiting to prey on vulnerable families.

The Federal Communications Commission suggests some steps owners can take.

First, watch out for red flags from people claiming to be from government disaster relief agencies.

Real agents will not ask for money or your account information.

If you receive a phone call regarding an insurance claim or policy, do not provide information until you can independently verify its legitimacy.

If you want to donate to relief efforts, be sure to give to well-known charities and double-check all contact information.
