CM orders suspension of Vijayanagara DDPI and BEO

Expressing displeasure over Vijayanagara district’s poor performance in SSLC results this year, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah issued a directive suspending the Deputy Director of Public Education (DDPI) and the Block Education Officer during a review meeting at Hosapete in Vijayanagara district on Friday.

The district, which was ranked 10th last year, slipped to 27th this year. Mr. Siddaramaiah said the lethargic attitude of the officials and lack of quality education were the reasons for the poor performance.

After taking close note of the matter, Mr. Siddaramaiah spoke to the Education Minister over phone and directed him to issue suspension orders for DDPI and BEO, Vijayanagara. He also directed to send a copy of the notice to the Chief Executive Office Vijayanagara Zilla Panchayat.

The Chief Minister questioned the district authorities on what action had been taken against officials of the Education Department for poor performance. He asked the Deputy Commissioner and the Chief Executive Officer whether they had ever visited hostels run by the Social Welfare Department and how often they had conducted inspections to check the condition of the hostels.

He directed the officials to conduct a house-to-house survey to check whether the toilets constructed in rural areas are being used and how many households do not have toilets. Besides constructing toilets, the officials should also create awareness about the use of toilets to improve hygiene and avoid open defecation in the district.

He directed the police to tighten the noose around illegal betting, matka gambling and ganja smuggling in the district and set a deadline of three months to put an end to all illegal activities. The chief minister touched on various important issues during the meeting, including rehabilitation of lakes and operation of reverse osmosis plants.
