Austin Butler reveals details of his bicycle accident during filming The Bikers. Director: Jeff Nichols, The Bikers is an upcoming action film that tells the story of a motorcycle gang that slowly turns into an increasingly dangerous and violent culture. In addition to Butler, the main actors of The Bikers includes Jodie Comer, Tom Hardy, Michael Shannon, Mike Faist, Norman Reeddus and Boyd Holbrook.

According to Virgin RadioButler describes an accident he had while filming The BikersAccording to the actor, the accident in question occurred on a rainy day in “about three o’clock in the morning.” Someone on set told Butler that if the motorcycle he was using happened to start, “just lift it off and then turn it over” in front of the train tracks. When the motorcycle started, Butler drove into the darkness and tried to stop right in front of the tracks. As he approached, however, he got caught in wet leaves and fell off the motorcycle. Read Butler’s full story below:

It had rained during the day and it was about three in the morning.

We were shooting a scene, the last one I have with Tom, and the bike was cold. (Advisors on set) said, “The bike won’t start, but try to kickstart it. It won’t start, but when it starts, just drive off and turn around before you hit the tracks.”

And so I got on the bike, we were shooting a scene… I kicked the bike in and it started right up! So I took off and drove down the road looking for the train tracks… about that time there were these patches of street lights and then darkness, and I was in one of these patches of darkness.

I started moving to the right side of the road and didn’t realize that they had pushed all the wet leaves to the right side. When you ride a motorcycle over wet leaves, it’s like you’re on ice.

And then the rear tire started to skid. I surfed the bike sideways for a while and then I jumped off, but I landed on my feet. I was fine!

Austin Butler has been involved in extreme roles lately

Ultimately Butler “was okay” despite the fall during the accident, probably aided by the fact that he “landed on (his) feet.” Even though this scene was not intended as a crash, the story suggests that many of the motorcyclists in The Bikers is done by the actors themselves, and not by a stunt team. This fact will probably help The Bikers succeed because the story can rely on its first-class actors rather than more intense special effects and camera tricks.

Although the action in The Bikers sounds intense, it is by far not the only energetic role the actor has had recently. Master of the skiesButler had to undergo flight training to play a World War II bomber squadron member, which involved intense gunfights. Even Dune – Part Two had physically demanding aspects, as large parts of the film were shot in the heat of the Wadi Rum desert in Jordan.

Much of this intensity fits with what Butler has proven so far as an actor. With his big breakthrough in ElvisButler became notorious for his unwavering commitment to portraying the King, especially in his voice. Butler’s dedication went so far that he often had Elvis in his voice in interviews months later. Although it is a completely different kind of role, it seems as if The Bikers is no exception when it comes to immersive and demanding butler roles. At least, it sounds like Butler came out of that role without any lasting effects.
