“I had a really bad accident while cycling in Connecticut this week,” he explained in the caption.

“I’m fine and haven’t broken any bones or sustained any major injuries, but I’m a little bruised and look like a purple potato.

“I am grateful to all the doctors, nurses and staff at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London who cared for and examined me.”

Gordon had an important warning for fans, adding: “Since tomorrow is #FathersDay, I have a very important message to all the dads out there… WEAR A HELMET!

“… (I am) very thankful for my helmet, which saved my life. Happy Father’s Day and stay safe.”

Gordon, who credited his helmet with saving his life, said the accident had “really shaken” him, adding that he was “lucky to be here.”

“I don’t care how short the trip is,” he said.

“I don’t care that they cost money… they are crucial.”

“…I’m glad I can stand here. I’m in pain, it’s been a brutal week and I’m getting through it somehow.”

Towards the end of the clip, Gordon lifted his chef’s jacket to reveal a horrific injury: the side of his torso was stained dark purple.

He also shared two photos: one showing him next to his bike before the ride and a second photo showing his crushed helmet and torn jersey after the accident.

People were horrified after seeing Gordon’s video, and many left their support in the comments.

One person wrote: “I’m so glad you’re okay boss! Wearing a helmet is a must!!”

Another said: “My heart sank when you lifted up your shirt!!! The world needs you, Chef!!! I’m more than happy to hear you’re going to be OK and thank God for the helmet! Happy Father’s Day and get well soon, Goat!!”
