Man arrested after attempting to pay at Taco Bell with counterfeit $20 bills

GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) – A Conway man was arrested after allegedly attempting to pay with counterfeit money at Taco Bell.

The Georgetown Police Department said Brandon Kinney was arrested Thursday after officers were called to Taco Bell because Kinney allegedly attempted to pay with two counterfeit $20 bills.

When officers arrived, Kinney attempted to leave the scene of the accident but was eventually stopped. Police later learned that Kinney was driving without a license and arrested him.

Kinney was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine and four additional counterfeit $20 bills.

He was also identified as a suspect in an incident that occurred at the Georgetown Ice Company on Monday, where he attempted to pass a counterfeit banknote. Police obtained a warrant for his arrest in that case as well.

Georgetown police said investigators are referring the case to the U.S. Secret Service to further investigate the origin of the counterfeit money.

Kinney was charged with driving while suspended, possession of methamphetamine and two counts of passing counterfeit money. Records show he has been in the Georgetown County Detention Center since Friday.
