I-55 Stevenson Expressway closed as Chicago police investigate shooting – NBC Chicago

Authorities said some sections of the Stevenson Expressway (I-55) in Chicago were closed early Friday and a police investigation was underway following a shooting on the city-bound lane.

The shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. Friday on the city-bound lane of I-55 at State Street, Illinois State Police said.

Photos and videos from the scene showed police searching the area. Officers were also seen collecting evidence from a black sedan that had multiple bullet holes in the driver’s door on the back seat, as well as damage to the hood and driver’s side tire.

According to ISP, the driver was not shot. No further details were released.

NBC 5’s Lisa Chavarria reported that motorists coming from I-55 were being diverted to the Chinatown entrance ramp at the corner of Cermak Road and State Street due to the police investigation.

The Dan Ryan Expressway ramp toward Stevenson also remained closed to traffic due to the investigation, Chavarria said.

Delays and congestion were reported starting at 5:30 a.m., with travel time from the Stevenson train to DuSable Lake Shore Drive taking nearly an hour. Delays and congestion were also increasing on the Dan Ryan train, Chavarria said.
