Father’s Day weekend will be warmer than normal, air quality alert

Father’s Day weekend is shaping up to be a hot one in metro Atlanta and northern Georgia.

High temperatures will exceed 90 degrees both days.

Atlanta hotter than usual

Temperatures this weekend are above average for this time of year.

“The last days of spring are here, and if it were September it would be pretty nice. But we’re bracing for heat in the days and weeks ahead,” said David Chandley, the team’s chief meteorologist. FOX 5 Storm.

Temperatures will remain high, with temperatures in the mid to upper 90s expected Saturday. Saturday and Sunday should be near records.

There is a slight risk of showers or thunderstorms on Father’s Day and Monday due to increased heat and humidity, but this is not expected to significantly affect plans.

On Monday, the weather will become warm and dry again, marking the official start of summer with the summer solstice.

Orange Smog Alert Atlanta Code

This temperature spike led to a smog alert day, coded orange for the metropolitan area, indicating unhealthy air for sensitive groups.

Those who are sensitive to ozone or who may suffer from heart or lung disease should reconsider outdoor activities during the heat of the day. Parents may also want to limit outdoor activities for children to the late afternoon and early evening, when concentrations are typically highest.

In search of the tropics

As we enter the early stages of hurricane season, attention turns to the tropics.

A plume of tropical moisture off the Florida coast is causing showers and thunderstorms, with heavier rain expected in South Florida.

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area of low pressure northeast of this moisture plume with a 20% chance of development.

Of greater concern is an area in the lower Gulf of Mexico that has a 40% chance of development over the next week.

This region is a fertile ground known for early tropical activities due to warm sea surface temperatures.
