NIA employees suspend strike – Asaase Radio

Employees of the National Identification Authority (NIA) have decided to suspend their indefinite strike announced on Monday (June 10, 2024).

According to employees, the move depends on the outcome of talks with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission on Friday (June 14, 2024).

In a statement on Wednesday (June 12), the staff said: “The reason for this suspension is due to several interventions by stakeholders including the Minister of National Security, the invitation of the Fair Wages Commission to the negotiating table, the advice of the parent union based on today’s decision of the National Labour Commission and the public outcry from critical Ghanaians.”

“It must be noted that the FWSC has assured us of its willingness to act in good faith in our subsequent engagements. However, this gesture will be put to the test on Friday, June 14, 2024.”

“Members can therefore be assured that if the government does not show its true confidence and grant us institutional allowances at the end of the negotiations on Friday, we will not hesitate to
Industrial action…”, the statement continues.
