Bloomington police investigate CSS vehicle incident during protest – The Bloomingtonian

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana – May 8, 2024

Bloomington Police are actively investigating an incident involving protesters and a Community Service Specialist (CSS) vehicle that occurred in the evening hours of May 7, 2024, according to a press release from the Bloomington Police Department.

The incident, which allegedly occurred at the intersection of N Walnut Street and 6th Street, was brought to the attention of authorities by members of the local media, according to Capt. Ryan Pedigo of the Bloomington Police Department.

After receiving reports of the incident, investigators immediately began securing surveillance camera footage from the area that may shed light on the circumstances of the incident.

Additionally, according to BPD, investigators have reached out to people who claim to have been involved in the protest and said they were struck by the CSS vehicle. These individuals have provided cell phone footage of the incident to assist in the ongoing investigation.

Bloomington police emphasized that the investigation remains active as law enforcement works to collect additional video evidence and conduct witness interviews. The results of the investigation will be reviewed by the City of Bloomington Law Department and the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office at the direction of Mayor Kerry Thomson.
