IMPD arrests man after shooting on east side

INDIANAPOLIS – A 33-year-old man was arrested following a reported shooting Tuesday in east Indianapolis, according to a social media post from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Just before noon Tuesday, officers from the department’s East District were dispatched to the 2100 block of N Dequincy Street for a report of a firearm being used. Multiple 911 callers reported that a man in a blue shirt driving a red sedan with a cracked windshield had shot at a woman in a driveway.

When officers arrived on scene, they reportedly saw a red car with a cracked windshield coming toward them. Officers stopped the vehicle, which was allegedly driven by 33-year-old Ledarius Crenshaw, who was subsequently arrested.

The post said officers found several shell casings on the road, as well as a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire. When officers searched Crenshaw’s vehicle, a handgun was reportedly found inside.

Crenshaw was arrested for possession of a firearm by a felon, unlawful carrying of a handgun by an unauthorized person, and criminal recklessness.

“This is an example of how successful we can be in fighting crime when the community and our officers work together,” IMPD East District Chief Michael Leepper said in the post. “I am thankful no one was injured in this incident. I am grateful for the information provided by 911 callers and proud of the work of our officers and detectives.”
