Four dead and two injured in Pitt County crash; driver is struck and dies while trying to stop traffic

GREENVILLE, NC (WNCT) — Four people were killed and two injured in a crash late Saturday night. The driver survived but was later struck and killed in another crash.

NC State Highway Patrol Master Trooper Rico L. Stephens said the accident occurred around 11:48 p.m. on NC Highway 903 near NC Highway 102. Suhziah Spruill, 22, of Snow Hill was traveling north on NC 903 at a high rate of speed when he veered off the road to the right and collided with a railing. Spruill had five unbelted passengers in the vehicle. All five were ejected.


Three of the passengers died at the scene. Two surviving passengers were taken to ECU Health Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

After the collision, Spruill jumped into the roadway to stop traffic. He was struck and killed by a Kia Forte, Stephens said. The driver of the Kia Forte, whose identity has not been released, will not be charged.

The three people who died in the crash were:

  • Nykwon Coppedge of Snow Hill, 22
  • Zykhia Connor from Grifton, 18
  • Amoni Spruill from Farmville, 20

The two people injured in the accident were:

  • Chasity Kittrell of Snow Hill, 20
  • Aliana Spruill from Snow Hill, 21

Officials continued their investigation into the accident until Sunday afternoon.
