No charges filed against Hornell police chief following prosecutors’ investigation

The Steuben County District Attorney’s Office has acquitted Hornell Police Chief Ted Murray of all criminal charges following an investigation into an incident reported by his department.

Prosecutors in Steuben County said late last week that Hornell police self-reported the unspecified incident involving Police Chief Murray about a month ago. The investigation, requested by Mayor John Buckley and the Hornell Board of Public Safety, lasted three weeks and included interviews, body camera footage and police records.

While details of the incident were not released, Baker confirmed it was not a criminal matter. Chief Murray’s job status remains unchanged while city officials review the findings.
