Royal man arrested for allegedly attacking and robbing his father at the motel

A Royal man with a lengthy criminal history was arrested Monday morning on felony and misdemeanor warrants stemming from his alleged attack and robbery of his father at a local motel in February.

Scott Wesley Walker, 41, who lists an address on Rainwater Street, was taken into custody shortly before 11:30 a.m. and charged with robbery and second-degree assault, each punishable by up to 20 years in prison, as well as a misdemeanor charge for theft of property under $1,000, penalty up to one year in prison.

Walker remained jailed without bail Tuesday on a probation order and is scheduled to appear in Garland County District Court today. He was taken into custody Monday at the Arkansas Community Corrections Parole and Probation Office, 615 W. Grand Ave., when he met with his probation officer.

According to court records, Walker was convicted of 15 residential burglaries in 2003 and sentenced to 20 years in prison; convicted of theft in 2008 and sentenced to 10 years in prison; for residential burglary in 2013 and sentenced to 20 years in prison, all in Garland County; for possession of drug paraphernalia in Saline County on June 12, 2019 and sentenced to three years in prison; and second-degree assault and residential burglary in Garland County on Dec. 16, 2019, and was sentenced to six years in prison but later paroled.

According to the probable cause affidavit in Monday’s arrest warrants, Hot Springs police responded to a room at the Capri Motel, 1606 Central Ave., shortly after 11 a.m. on Feb. 8 to assist LifeNet personnel.

Officers found a man lying on the ground bleeding from his right elbow. The man said his son, identified as Walker, had just robbed him and then left.

The man said Walker visited him at the motel and told his son he was going to the office to pay for another night, closing the door behind him. When he returned to the room, he found Walker and a woman lying on his bed in his room. He told them both that they had to leave and that he didn’t want them there.

Walker and his father began arguing and at one point Walker allegedly punched him in the side of the neck, causing him to fall to the ground. The father said he had suffered from neck and back injuries in the past and the punch from Walker left him unable to move.

He said Walker and the woman began searching his belongings in the room, eventually pulling his wallet from his pants and seizing $350. He said Walker put the wallet back in his pocket without the money and left.

The affidavit states that police and LifeNet personnel had to physically remove the victim because he was unable to move from his injury. Detective Shawn Woodall later obtained medical documents from CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs detailing the victim’s previous neck and back injuries.

It was noted that Walker was convicted in district court on Sept. 6 of third-degree domestic violence, a misdemeanor, making the incident that day a second misdemeanor in a year. Arrest warrants were issued for him on February 23rd.
