Rabbi Chezky Wolff: Famous New York rabbi attacked by anti-Semite, as a recent video shows. Details here

A prominent rabbi was attacked by an anti-Semite with a backpack outside a synagogue in Manhattan, in the heart of New York City. The incident was triggered by the rabbi’s request that his attacker simply put his dog on a leash, according to a report in the New York Post.

Rabbi attacked in front of synagogue

Rabbi Chezky Wolff was standing outside the door of his synagogue on West 23rd Street between 6th and 7th Avenues when a dog approached the synagogue doors and attempted to get in. The rabbi attempted to stop him by blocking the doors and then telling the man to at least put the dog on a leash. This, however, seemed to provoke the man, who called him a “dirty Jew.” It is unknown what immediately followed, but the accused attacker then struck Wolff directly on the head with his tote bag, knocking off his glasses and kippah. The accused was wearing sunglasses, a blue baseball cap, and blue pants. He was taken in by the rabbi after he began cursing at Wolff and calling him a dirty Jew.

“Attacker hides in an apartment”

After the attack, Wolff tried to pursue the man and demanded an explanation for the abusive and violent behavior, but the man seemed unfazed and fled to an apartment in the same block as the synagogue, right in front of whose building the entire incident had occurred.

Police have begun searching for the attacker, and Wolff’s lawyer has said the man is hiding in his Chelsea high-rise. Local police and paramedics quickly arrived at the scene after the incident, but the New York Police Department reportedly did not have specific details about what happened.
