FIRST WARNING: Extreme heat until mid-week

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) – It’s another warm day with temperatures raising air quality concerns in parts of Imperial County.

Due to high ozone levels (smog), an Air Quality Advisory is in effect for portions of Imperial County until 8:00 p.m. TUESDAY.

Temperatures are expected to be slightly above average until Tuesday, before a high pressure system builds up in the desert southwest, leading to even higher temperatures and a significant risk of heat in the middle and second half of the week.

A Excessive heat WARNING has been issued and will go into effect Wednesday through Friday throughout Yuma County and parts of Imperial County as high temperatures reach 106-113 degrees Fahrenheit.

I grant a Weather Agency First Alert Action Days for the Desert Southwest Wednesday-Friday for the dangerously hot conditions.

As temperatures continue to rise, don’t forget to pay attention to heat protection.

We’ll be tracking the passing clouds and higher temperatures starting Wednesday, with highs around 110 degrees or more by Friday.

Temperatures will become cooler and cloudier by the weekend as a weak disturbance moves across the region.
