BALTIMORE–Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said second baseman Jorge Mateo is in concussion protocol after he was accidentally hit in the batting helmet by Cedric Mullins’ bat while standing in the holding circle in the fourth inning.

Mateo was removed from the game.

“We’ll just wait and see,” Hyde said. “Run some more tests and see how he feels tomorrow.”

Mullins was scheduled to open the inning.

“I was loosening up, looking at the pitcher, stretching in a circle, normal stuff,” Mullins said. “He was right behind me. I didn’t see him at all. I just saw him in the kitchen. He seems fine.”
