Chennai: Female TV presenter accuses temple priest of raping her after giving her sedative-laced ‘theerth’ | Crime News

Based on a complaint from a private television show host, the all-women Virugambakkam police launched an investigation. The police then found private pictures and videos of temple priest Karthik Munusamy with the girl. Police have registered a case against Karthik Munusamy in six sections and further investigation is underway.

Chennai: A presenter of a private television channel has lodged a complaint with the All Women’s Police Station in Chennai’s Virugambakkam against the priest of one of the city’s famous Amman temples, alleging that he raped her after forcing her to drink ‘theerth’ laced with sedatives drink.

The priest and the girl became friends

According to police, the victim Divya, 30 (name changed) from Saligramam, stated in her complaint that as a spiritually inclined woman, she visited the famous temple in Parrys Corner area in Chennai and met Karthik Munusamy. who worked as a priest in the temple.

Later, Karthik Munusamy had sent messages to the woman on WhatsApp from time to time about the lectures and events at the temple. As they became friends, every time the woman visited the temple, she was taken to the sanctum sanctorum and given a special darshan.

He forced me into sex work, she claimed

As days passed, one day Karthik Munusamy took her in his Benz when she visited the temple and said he would pass through her house and leave her at home. He then allegedly offered her “Theerth” with a sedative. After drinking, she fell unconscious and was allegedly raped by the priest. He then promised to marry her in the temple.

She alleged in her complaint that since then Karthik Munuswamy had been visiting her house frequently and she had become pregnant. However, under some pretext she was taken to a private hospital in Vadapalani and forced to undergo an abortion. Afterwards, she said he also forced her into sex work.

Priest was arrested by six IPC branches

Police said that after completing her engineering degree, she worked as a program presenter in a private television channel in Chennai.
