OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Neenah City Attorney David Rashid appeared in court for the first time Monday on charges he sexually assaulted his wife.

A signature bond of $10,000 was set for Rashid, 61. He faces two counts of third-degree domestic violence and one count of fourth-degree domestic violence.

Rashid’s attorney has filed a motion to dismiss the charges. This will be heard at a hearing on May 20th. A preliminary hearing has not been scheduled.

According to the criminal complaint, the investigation began with an anonymous email to police last summer accusing Rashid of abusing his ex-wife. The woman, who denied sending the email, told investigators that Rashid had had non-consensual sexual contact with her several times since 2017.

Rashid told his wife that he didn’t need consent because she gave it when they married, the victim’s complaint said.

Online court records show their divorce was finalized earlier this year.

After the charges were filed, Rashid was placed on leave by Neenah.
