Federal agency investigating complaint against Greenville County Schools

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) – The U.S. Department of Education is investigating a complaint filed against Greenville County Schools in April.

According to a weekly docket from the agency’s Office of Civil Rights, the investigation began April 29.

The complaint is classified as an alleged “Disability – FAPE” discrimination. Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) is a policy that states that all South Carolina children ages 3 to 21, including those with disabilities, have a right to a public education.

No further details were released. Although the complaint is under investigation, officials have not yet determined whether or not it has merit.

FOX Carolina has reached out to Greenville County Schools for comment on the investigation.
