1 dead after 36-meter fall into a ravine in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Kansas City police are investigating a crash that occurred Saturday night in which one person died after driving 120 feet into a ravine.

According to KCPD, a preliminary investigation revealed that shortly before 6:45 p.m., a Mercedes 300D was traveling at a high rate of speed on eastbound 63rd Street near Hardesty Avenue when it missed a curve and left the road.


According to KCPD, the Mercedes then drove 120 feet down a grassy embankment and into a ravine, rolling over several times and ejecting the driver.

According to reports, the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

According to KCPD, the driver was the only person in the car and was pronounced dead when emergency medical services arrived at the scene.

According to KCPD, there are 54 fatalities compared to 49 in the same period last year.

The investigation is ongoing.
