Man crushed by gate in tragic accident

Police are investigating the death of 64-year-old Harry Roopnarine, who died when a 14-foot-high gate malfunctioned and fell on him

Authorities said Roopnarine, of Riversdale Road in Williamsville, died around 1:35 p.m. last Thursday (July 25).

He was reportedly visiting a friend in the village of Hardbargain when, as he tried to leave the house, a 14-foot-high gate broke and fell on Roopnarine.

People from the surrounding area reacted and were able to lift the gate away from the injured man.

He was taken to the Princes Town District Health Facility where Roopnarine unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

The police were informed and a team of officers led by PC Khan and WPC Babatunde responded.

Officers from the homicide squad were also notified.

As part of the investigation, an autopsy was ordered.

In addition, statements from people in the area and the house owner were secured.
