Flights at Resunga Airport suspended for one month

GULMI, July 28: Resunga Airport in Gulmi district suspended flights last month.

Suman Thapa, the manager of Resunga Airport, said flights have been suspended since June 28 due to adverse weather conditions, including rain and dense fog during the monsoon season. Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), which previously operated flights three times a week, has not been able to resume operations since late June.

Passengers with tickets for flights between Resunga and Kathmandu report that they head to the airport daily in the hope of catching a flight. Chief Thapa explained that flights have been suspended to ensure the safety of passengers until weather conditions improve.

Resunga Airport is normally operated by NAC’s 18-seater Twin Otter aircraft. Scheduled flights depart from Kathmandu at 6:30 am and Resunga at 7:30 am. The airfare from Kathmandu to Resunga is Rs 7,500 and Rs 7,300 for a round trip.

Since the resumption of commercial air traffic last year, the airport has seen an increase in the number of domestic and international tourists, but technical restrictions due to strong winds in the afternoon limit flights to the morning hours.

According to the airport, there were 125 flights from Resunga to Kathmandu last year. The airport is located about five kilometers from the district headquarters of Tamghas.
