School openings suspended in some parts of Calabarzon

CITY OF LUCENA Some schools in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) have suspended the start of classes on Monday, July 29, following the arrival of Typhoon Carina (international name: Gaemi) and the intensified southwest monsoon.

They have decided to start the school year on August 5th.

The Region 4A Department of Education said classes were suspended “to ensure the readiness and safety of students and teachers.”

Below you will find the list of the Office of Civil Protection (OCD) in the region as of July 28, 15:00.

Meanwhile, the local government of Montalban, Rizal has also suspended classes in public and private elementary, middle and high schools due to the bad weather and destruction left behind by Carina.

The suspension order was posted on the local government’s Facebook page.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had earlier announced that classes would resume on Monday, July 29. However, it is at the discretion of those affected by the recent floods caused by Typhoon Carina whether or not they need more time to recover.
