North Yorkshire school worker jailed for sexually abusing autistic boy

A school worker who subjected an autistic boy to “a shocking series of sexual abuses” has been jailed.

Acasia WelburnThe 26-year-old committed her crimes while at school in North Yorkshire, where she worked as a carer in a trusted role.

Welburn, who now lives in New Road, Telford, appeared at York Crown Court today (Friday) for sentencing.

She was sentenced to two and a half years in prison.

Welburn initiated sexual contact with the autistic teenager.

She first contacted the boy via social media and sent him sexual messages and pictures.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “This was followed by a series of shocking assaults as she regularly met the victim for sexual intercourse in her car and home.”

Detective Alison Morris of North Yorkshire Police’s Sexual Abuse Case Team said: “I cannot thank the victim enough for the incredible courage and determination she has shown.”

“This is another case that shows that it is possible for victims to seek and receive justice.

“We would like to encourage anyone affected by a crime to contact the police. They will support you and listen to you.”
