Family desperate after 18-year-old from Colombia with soccer scholarship killed in hit-and-run

MIAMI DADE COUNTY, Florida. – An investigation is ongoing following a fatal hit-and-run accident in Miami-Dade County.

According to authorities, 18-year-old Kevin Chaparro was riding his bike early Monday morning when he was struck and left for dead, according to police.

The accident was recorded on video from a neighbor’s house.

The police assume that the driver was traveling in a white Jeep.

It happened near Southwest 127th Avenue and 32nd Terrace.

According to his family, Chaparro was on his way home after watching a soccer game when he was hit and the driver did not stop to help.

Chaparro had just moved from Colombia to South Florida to attend Millennia Atlantic University on a soccer scholarship.

His parents spoke via Zoom with Bridgette Matter of Local 10 News in Columbia and said he is their only child and they are close and talk every day.

They are trying to find a way to scrape together money to travel to Miami and bring Chaparro back to Colombia.

Miami-Dade detectives are hoping someone out there recognizes the Jeep and can help them find the driver responsible.
