Gaffney woman hit and killed by pickup truck

A woman was struck and killed by a pickup truck in Gaffney, South Carolina, on Tuesday night, according to Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler. She was identified as Carson Melinda Wofford, 21, of Gaffney. According to Fowler, Wofford was lying near the center line of North Logan Street when she was struck by a Ford F-350 pickup truck pulling a flatbed trailer and traveling southbound at 11:23 p.m. Minutes earlier, Wofford had jumped onto the hood of another vehicle that had stopped because she was standing in the road, Fowler said. According to Fowler, video from a nearby business confirmed that Wofford slid off the hood of the car and onto the road before she was struck by the pickup truck. She died at the scene, Fowler said. An autopsy will be performed later this week to aid his investigation into the fatal incident, Fowler said.
