Former Alabama CB Khyree Jackson killed in car crash

The college football and NFL worlds mourn the loss of Khyree Jackson.

James Crepea with The Oregonian announced via X that Jackson died in a car accident on the Fourth of July weekend. He was only 24 years old.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport provided more details from the Maryland State Police Department. Jackson was one of three victims killed in the car crash, all of whom were in the same vehicle. Two other cars were involved in the crash, and while no one else was injured, police believe alcohol played a role in the fatal crash.

“Our thoughts are with Khyree’s family, friends, teammates and coaches, as well as all the victims of this tragic accident,” the Vikings said in a statement.

“I am absolutely devastated by this news,” said a statement from head coach Kevin O’Connell. “Khyree brought a contagious energy to our facility and our team. His confidence and engaging personality immediately attracted his teammates. In our short time together, it was obvious that Khyree would develop into a great professional football player, but even more impressive was his desire to become the best person he could be for his family and those around him.”

Jackson had just made his NFL dreams come true. He was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2024 NFL Draft and landed in the fourth round with the 108th overall pick.

Before entering the NFL, Jackson was a 4-star JUCO recruit out of East Mississippi Community College. He attracted enough attention at the JUCO level that he was recruited by Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Jackson spent two seasons with the Crimson Tide program, but a suspension for unknown reasons inevitably led to him seeking playing time elsewhere. He joined the Oregon Ducks and the move helped put him on the map of NFL scouts.

In one season for the Ducks, Jackson was selected to the All-Pac-12 first team. He finished the season with five tackles for loss, three interceptions and seven pass breakups.

The football world will continue to mourn Jackson’s death as more details about the tragic accident emerge.
